There isn't a better place than the "Singapore Botanical Gardens" to iron out the rustiness out of my photo taking skills.I have been quite tardy n lazy off late & I really needed a good workout with my camera.
Armed with my Canon EOS 300 , I finally ventured out last Sunday to my favourite shooting location. As luck wud have it,I was in for a major dissapointment. The place now resembles a war-zone with trenches dug up in every possible corner !! The whole place has been turned Upside Down for a major makeover , and believe U me, It's not a pretty sight right now..
I got no new pics to show from this outing (cud just manage 3 sorry looking frames) . So the next best thing I cud do was to excavate some of my old pics taken during previous excursions to same place.
The "Fading Beauty" featured here is amongst one of my most satisfying pics. I am glad that I was able to capture this leaf before it withered totally into oblivion..
U can find couple of more pics in my Flickr Folder http://www.flickr.com/photos/parikrama_sg/sets/271743/
Will be posting some more (old) pics soon. Right now my 20 MB per month quota offered by flicker is almost consumed **sigh** Any suggestions vis-a-vis hassle free photo upload sites will be highly appreciated !!

Awesome pictures. Loved loved loved "dazzler-1", "dazzler-2" and "Trilogy". Fading beauty is nice too, I was almost waiting for the wind to sway the leaf :)
Will look out for your blogs from now on.
Priya.
Spectacular!!!! I am thrilled to find a shutterbug pal!!
Loved mirror mirror...wonderful composition.
spot me if u can was good to...yes u need new zoom lenses. :-))) You are good and can pamper yourself a bit!!
loved hmmm and rib cage...i like close-ups. can u tell??
fading beauty looks lovely. wonder what it would look like in bw...
single boat and rocky gateway are both well framed.
Canon EOS 300? is that the rebel model??? the one that is digi-slr??? But there's more to photography that a camera eh!! A lot of people see the pictures and say "great camera!!" Awww man!! that hurts!! :-))))
absolutely *loved* ur pics, buddy!! the trilogo one, the rib cage...dazzlers.....all of 'em are truly amazing!
and I totally agree with chay, there is so much more to photography than just the camera....I mean the instances that one chooses to capture, I feel say a lot about the person per se :)
enig!
I ve said it before.. and I'll say it again. Guruji, aapke charan kahan hain?!!!! man IW, you have lost your right to be modest after those snaps!!.. My fav.. fading beauty of course.. the snap is surreal, love the way them tendrils fall off.. and the "hmmm" image.. lovely color and texture.. am not too fond of flower pics, but thats just me.. content overpowering form and all that.. am just wondering how the "fading beauty" snap would look without the black area on top right corner. maybe it distracts.. maybe it adds balance.
oh man,
Now I feel stupid. Awesome pics. Too good for words. Loved the ribcage and the fading beauty. Ditto @chay. I am wodering too, as to how the fading beauty will look in black and white.
post some more pics. these were out of this world.
Absolutely awesome pics IW!!!! Wordless that is what I am at the moment:-)
Scarlett
SSM,
Hmmm !! errr I am not sure if that was a banana tree.. A fully grown
banana tree reaches quite a decent height & has a distinct green bark..if I remember correctly, this leaf was pretty much at my eye/ground level and there wasn't any hint of a bark..(Maybe it was yet to grow !! i wudn't hazard a
guess there !!) .. But yeah it sure resembles a lot to a banana leaf..
Fizo Ji,
Aap ki houslaa-afzaai ke liye tahe-dil se shukriyaa.. Ab rahi baat chote-badey ki, toh aaj bhi jab "Z" & "J" likhney ki baari aati hei..toh khudaa kasam, hum Pehle aapko aur phir hamari hindi teacher ko yaad karte hei !! Toh eis naatey se toh aap hee humse kaafi badi hui naa ??
Sunny , Thanx. I dunno if the sequence keeps changing randomly in the folder, but whatever that comes as 3 & 6,I wud set them aside as Ur fav :)
bleuhue,
I have a Canon SLR ( EOS 300 ) with a 28-80mm Zoom fitted on2 it.. Those pics that U see up there in flickr have been taken using slide films (Kodak Ektachrome 100S & Fujichrome Velvia)
Priya,
Thanx Thanx Thanx for Ur kind words.. Well I am not prolific blogger,so I really dunno how long U'll have to wait for my next blog :) But there wud be one more photo blog sooon,I promise.
Chay,
I am glad u mentioned "Mirror Mirror", tell u what.. that mirror is located right outside one of the Public Toilets inside the Botanical Garden.. Its so darn clean & neat.. that one is temped to linger a bit more after having done with answering the nature's call ;-) As U can see the lingering sure helped me in bagging that queer composition.. Lot of ppl mistake that mirror for a window !!
Well I was also under the (Wrong ??) impression that EOS 300 which I have is marketed as "Rebel" in the US.. But after checking with Pradzie I think
thats not the case.. I am not much of a equipment freak and my General Knowlegde is pretty out-dated when it comes to Camera Models & stuff like that..
I have a pretty simple old fashioned SLR which works on films/slides.. I am pretty old-fashioned when it comes to my photography :) The digital
revolution is yet to reach me :) And I am not in any hurry either to embrace it..
Enigma,
Thanx for stopping by, I hope my pictures told U all good things about me !! Pictures are truly a window thru which U can peek in2 a photographers soul..
Void,
Sir ji, hamarey charan wahi hei jahaa unhe honay chaahiye !! Pataa nahi aap kaha kaha talaash kar rahey hei !!
Yeah U are spot on about the distracting "black bot" at the top right corner.I was so drawn in by the leaf..that I got bit careless about the background. It doesn't balances valances !! it just simply mars what wud otherwise have
been a goodish composition. To be quite fair to myself, that leaf was located off the side wall of a pond.. and I had very litte room to move about.. one step further and I wud be in water !! One step back.. I wud lose the subject..
So I kinda had to compromise on the frame.. Err alrite alrie I know I am getting overtly defensive here :)
And I can understand as to why U don't care much about flower pixs.. Its more like playing to the galleries isn't it ?? But kyaa karey kabhi kabhi karnaa padtaa hei !!
Bilbo,
Fikar Not.. we all have our stupid moments don't we hehehe.. So relaxx..
Scarlett !!
I have ran out of steam now !! So i wud just plain thank U for stopping by..
IW !!!! lip smacking !!! so beautifully composed and such rich colors !
WOWWWWWWWW!
my fav was the Lone ranger.. I loved the huge leaf in the middle that has a petal lying on it... the fading beauty was out of the world!
Ofcourse you shud blog more often, and if you are wondering what to blog, u cud always write series of blogs about "photography for dummies"... and I promise to enroll as dummy #1:)
iw,
man, change that handle -- stop whinning and start clicking more often!
it's a CRIME not to use the talent that you've got more often (yeah, okay, I'm being very selfish here, but what the hell, I never claimed to be anything else).
I'm glad that void's and my favourite is same :D. In iitian lingo, tu god aadmi hai.
And yeah, absolutely agree with void, you lost your modesty excuses today (or yesterday).
I repeat, look at me, and the amount of trash I chrun out in the hope of hitting the pot of gold. And you hit it so frequently and yet....
India-Shining :D
cheers,
asuph.
Toc,
U echoed my thoughts !! I feel U too should blog more often yaar.. U have wasted far too much of Ur life following Indian Cricket Team.. Get Real..
Chetiyaar,
Thanx buddy.. hoping to see lots of snaps from Ur Srinagar trip!!
(Excuse me for leaking this highly classified info.. but i don't think any1 wud be heading again to this post.. so Ur secret is safe with me)
Nithya,
What an insult !! U think my insights cud churn out only dummies ?? ***Sigh***
Asuph,
Arey yaaar whatz with U & Void.. both of U are hell bent on outraging my Modesty..!!
& what do U mean I need to change my handle !! I alredi have evolved into Parikrama.. Anyways thanx for Ur constant prodding..
Wow! awesome pics! The backlit leaf is a superb composition... love those bold lines!
There is a saying among photographers... ordinary ones capture the scenary, good ones capture the moment. Your photos truely belong to the second category.
Keep shooting!
humsafar.
Parikrama,
I hear you about the digital revolution. Long back when aim'n'shoot was in fashion, I nick-named it idiot camera...thats what it was right?? u aim and shoot...could not go wrong with it...now digi is the new idiot camera...almost. It gives me the liberty to fool around, but still makes me feel like I am not a real photgrapher. I should start using my slr again eh!! :-?
I guessed u had used slides when I saw the colours...so rich. Only slides could have done it justice. This can become such an expensive hobby, if you get hooked on!! :-)))
Hummmz...:-)) nice!!
Humsufar,
I am flattered by Ur lavish praise.. Thanxxxxz.
Chay,
The fun & suspense in getting a roll developed can't be compared to the instant gratification that Digital pics offer !!
Sunny,
Now that U have named Ur fav's , I will guard them with all of my dear life.. :))
Okay folks.. I think the length of my response to Ur comments has exceeded the original blog's length!! Its embarassing !!
So this is my final word on this blog.. Thank U all for ur kind words.. And Thanking in advance to all of those who wud stop by after this comment !!
IW,
Can i whine? Dude, i wanna cry! Can i? But before that could you please tell me how did you manage to shoot under lowlight conditions? Tripod? faster Av lens?
and tell me do you record the exposures for all these pictures? i do when shooting film. You did tell me before abt how the colors popped on using slide films, now these pictures just show it.
Stick to shooting landscape since ur more comfie with what it offers and you pretty much come out with some daring shots.
My fave shots would be "lone ranger" (w/o zoom's much better) "mirror mirror" and "lost pier". rest of them are pretty good too, but these three just left me wandering within the four sides. great composition in all of them. soft lightin on the ribcage and theres nothing i would change in most of these pictures. great work dude. More please? Oh wait, my whine "why in the effin gods name is slide processin so effin expensive?" ;) thks mate
Hey Pradz,
Tell U what even I wanna cry :) Infact I am not gonna cry.. I am gonna kick myself where it hurts the most !!
The reason being.. I am not in2 habit of recording the exposure settings.. Usually I start off by recording for cupl of shots , then usually lethargy takes over.. & that chit of paper is relegated to some corner in the Camera Bag or my Pocket..
I dont have a "Fast" lens.. But Yes,the "tripod" does come handy when U are shooting landscapes in low light conditions.. I hate using Tripod.. hate all the fiddling.. I use it very very reluctantly..
I will be posting the remaining pics from that "Lost Pier" bunch.. Be preapared to cry more :)
Another excellent collection! Just went through all of them. Really liked "Mirror-Mirror" but all of them were good. Look forward to seeing more!
