Most of the plaques date back to 1860 up until 1920s/30s. Considering that those people lived in a far more interesting & volatile era,I am sure each n every tombstone has a story to tell..
But the thing is I suck badly at history,trivia & story telling. So i wud not dare n cook up some story :)
These have been taken at a place called Fort Canning Park.. U can check out the historical Trivia pertaining to Canning Hill/Fort.
What spooked me was, these people who although being born in England / Europe, breathed their last on the tiny alien island of Sg'pore,far far away from their motherland.. Sad indeed. But then for all we know they might have really enjoyed their sunny stay on this green island . So maybe this is not so sad resting place afterall :)
The "Memorium" pic caught my eye coz it was in memory of some1 who died so young (16/17 yrs) ...
You have a way with pics, they all seem to convey a tale... for instance, the "what lies beneath" or "till death do us apart"... Wonder if some novice fotographer like me would find them "fotogenic";-) But it looks great thru ur lens:)
My fav is the "steps to nowhere", but i dint like the angled pic.. wish it were straight..:D and I loved the riot of colors too... against a perfect blue background, it looks very very attractive:)
awesome pics as usual...the evening glow one is my fav coz of the angle of the pic as well as the play of light and shade on the bldg...the contrast of the jetblack road to the bright bldg adds immensely to the charm of the pic...
parikrama - the observation about the mortal remains gave me a cheerful moment of pondering. mmm, i like the idea of being birthed on one continent, buried on another. gives a person true perspective. a perspective of Being a member of earth. a member of fauna. part of the Whole. the definitions of country and citizenship and culture fade beautifully. yes? maybe.
