Mind Over Matter

After months of deliberations, I finally jumped onto the DSLR bandwagon. The pics you see here are from my first outing with Canon EOS 1000D. I had a particularly awful night on Friday. My acidity flared up & it kept me awake throughout the night. Had 2 bouts of forced retching ( vaman dhauti) one at 3am & another at 6am. The easiest option was to stay at home & mope (like I always do) and put off the picture taking outing to another day. But i didn't, hence the title 'mind over matter' . Just took a quick shower , drank cold chocolate milk (to pacify the acids) & left home at 7:30am. Though the pics are nothing to shout about but I am happy just the same to have gotten over my inertia.

Yup, the pics don't have your special touch, as yet. But great to see coming out of the closet :D

keep shooting,

Asuph,
It was a real struggle to crack open the closet door. When I look around & see the pics taken by other (non-professionals, mind you), I cringe & wonder why do i even bother (clicking). I am not good enough & might never be. So why put myself through the torture. Why not instead just sit back & appreciate pics taken by others.

But, the end result notwithstanding, I quite enjoy the 'process' of taking photos. Scouting locations, walking for miles together (alone), immersing myself in a landscape, those are the kind of things which I enjoy. So yeah, why should I deprive myself of that just coz the end product is lousy.

Thanks, as always, for being impartial with your assessment.

p.s. : I am bit fond of Nbr.9 aswell. Nbr. 10 (the heart shaped leaf) was supposed to be the pièce de résistance, but somehow I just could't frame it in a way which would make its shape more appealing. It was very hearbreaking to walk away from it without getting the shot that I wanted.

deja vu!
i have pic number 11 and 13 just like you took them, that itself shows that this collection is nothing to boast about (if i cud take it then anyone can take it) :-)
as mentioned in one of the comments - it lacks your regular touch of brilliance.
and sir - please dont try to be modest at the cost of lying, you do take good pictures and i hope we'll be seeing many more of those on this blog now that you have the right equipment ;-)

(Feels good to NOT have a stifling 140 words limit!)

Touche'! I guess too much of this industrial age mentality is hurting us. This obsession with the final product, and almost callous ignorance of the process. I'm with you. In fact those are exactly my sentiments (only w.r.t. writing).

Finally, apunko kidhar professional hona hai? So far as it's giving us what we want (sukoon?) why bother about anything else and spoil it?

cheers,
asuph

AB,
It's not about the quality & size of the equitment, it's about how you use it. All these years I use to look with jealousy mixed awe at those big zoom lenses (which I lacked in my armoury). When I bought the DLSR, it came along with an additional 75-300 zoom at throwaway price. I pounced on the offer with glee. But the glee turned into despair when I tried the lens. First thing its heavy. Secondly when you take an aim with it, it wobbles as if you are at the high seas. Focussing becomes nightmarish & using a tripod becomes a must. By the time you manage to juggle all that & get ready to pull the trigger you notice that the dragonfly that you were eyeing has made a quiet escape ! It's hopeless, I tell you. Size matters but it pains aswell, & i guess it's not limited to realm of camera lenses only ;-)

asuph,
Maybe it's our age which makes us philosphical & look at the bigger picture :)

Thanks Vi.

Yup, such a beautiful place. I have been there on more than one occasion. Perfect place to stroll around holding hands with a special someone. Alas! i hold a lifeless cold camera in my hand, instead.. :)

Rajeev,
Yes it's Singapore Botanical Garden, though this is the first time I am hearing someone calling it by its acronym ! Sounds strange.

I wasn't sure if it was and didn't want to name. the site is sbg.org :).

Rajeev,
I tried checking out sbg.org, twice. It just refuses to load up. Anyways, I am sure there is nothing in there (website, i mean)that I haven't seen with my naked eyes so I will give it a pass :)
