Tranquil

These pics were shot with a no-frills point & shoot digital camera. On this particular day, the late afternoon light was nothing short of 'divine' and it shows. No fancy SLR camera, no fiddling with aperture/shutter speed, no post-production touch-ups, no nothing. Just frame & shoot. Easy.

Sahi Hai bidu!

It feels so good looking at a beautiful picture especially taken by yourself.

You moved away from SLR?

Thanks Punds.

No, I still am very much in love with my SLR. This was taken during a non-serious site-seeing kinda excursion with my mum, sis & nephew. On such occasions, its best to do away with the technicalities of a SLR & take the easy way out. Saves time & headache. The digital camera belonged to my sis.

Cool stuff IW !

The Digital cameras are pretty versatile !

But to the purists, its always a grade below because its lets you do trial and error and doesnt let you hone your own skills

Thanx Chetz..

Digital camera's have levelled the field for the amatuers (non-purist). Purist are soon going to be extinct :)

Dude,

Can give some tips on taking photos with Digicam? Basic tips will do.

Your photography is simply superb dude.

Thats what they said when computer based graphic design applications created "graphic designers"

I am sure you agree that there is a ton of difference between knowing to use a tool and being an artist !

Film based cameras might become extinct. But Purists will remain IW !

Madras,
I can't really think of any tips off hand but I would recommend you to visit nearest library and pick up any book on photography. For taking landscapes, venture out in early morning and late afternoon. The light is most flattering at those hours. If the light isn't good, no amount of skills or tips can save you. Apart from good ambient light, you won't need anything to take good landscapes. Trust me. By the way, why did you disown the 'i' from your nick ? Just curious.

Chetz,
Herez a quote which I have written on first page of my photography diary.. (err its not exactly a diary, just few loose sheafs of papers)

"When all is said and done, it is the human eye and brain that judge whether a particular scene is attractive and worthy of preserving on film"

So i guess, still all is not lost for the Purist. But it's becoming increasingly hard to spot the difference between a purist and a digital hack. Okay maybe I am just whining for the sake of whining :)

hey K,

this is my biggest problem, I get so tangled up in frivolities, that I miss the sublime. to think this was online for more than two days while I frequented your blog at least ten times for that stupid thread, and missed this!

whoever said photography was about technique? frame, frame, frame! it's your eyes that do the photography, no? the fingers are just the slaves. especially liked the second one... the reflections is amazingly well captured.

chal,
asuph.

Howdee Asupha,

I very much appreciate and enjoy your frivolities (am just copying your spelling) so please don't be apologetic about them. I wish i could play around with words like you do, so effortlessly and with lot of intellect.

Totally agree about 'eye' being the most important element in photography (check the quote in my reply to Chetz). Thanx for your appreciation.

Pari,

When I posted my previous comment I missed out the letter "i", that was good catch buddy. Are you by any chance into QA? ;) just kidding.

BTW thanks for some good tips.

Tranquil.. yes it is. I like the first picture more perhaps coz the light seems dimmer. I've something for tints.. shadows.. reflections and all that is clearer in the first one. The second is aesthetic too. Actually.. I don't even know 'p' of photography.. (the way you claim, you don't know 'p' of poetry though I refute that assertion) but they look beautiful. I mean really beautiful :) Keep clicking.

Aria,
The first pic is my favourite too. The second one, although beautiful, is too close. Its more 'in your face' while the first one is more aloof, withdrawn & non-intrusive. Thanx for leaving your footprints.

Now that you are done shamelessly taking the credit for taking a picture using a point and shoot digital camera, I am glad to inform you that you have been tagged

http://full2faltu.wordpress.com/2007/07/16/aat-tag/

On a serious note, its not about the camera but about the picture. The ability to see what others can't and then capturing it on camera, any camera!

Punds,
You ought to reward me with something (a glass of Kaadha will do right now) coz I completed the Tag even before (or almost simultaneously) you finished telling me about being tagged.. :)

Gosh I have too much of free time.

Oh please Billy, by all means ! Print it , put it in a nice frame & hang it on the wall of your living room :-) That would really make me happy & perhaps motivate me to get my camera out of the bag ! Its been quite a while since I stepped out. How have you been? Hope the tunnel is nearing its end and you are catching glimpses of the proverbial light :) Will wait for the epilogue.
